Education in Kalyani

Education of Kalyani

Kalyani is best known for it excellent educational infrastructures. The township has a solid educational platform right from school level to University level. In fact, life in Kalyani is inextricably linked with it’s two renowned centres of learning - Kalyani University and Bidhan Chandra Krishi Vishwavidyalaya. Kalyani occupies a hallowed position as far as the educational scenario in West Bengal is concerned.

If one considers the prospect of Higher Education (Post Graduate and above) facilities, Kalyani occupies the numero-uno tag since the township has in it’s cradle three Universities - Kalyani University, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Vishwavidyalaya and West Bengal University of Animal & Fishery Sciences apart from a state - of - the - art Engineering College. This is a tall order indeed and not without reasons is Kalyani called a "student’s township".

Kalyani is perhaps the only place in the Indian sub - continent to have three Universities all at one place.

What makes Kalyani a student’s paradise is the excellent infrastructure, availability of qualified teachers, verdant and unpolluted surroundings and above all a cosmopolitan student environment. The combination of high quality programs, beautiful campuses and it’s strategic location from Calcutta means that Kalyani attracts students right across India.

School Education

Kalyani has a good number of schools both English medium and Bengali medium.

As far as English medium schools are concerned, the major ones like Springdales, Julian Day and Central Model have all carved a niche for themselves as providers of quality school education in English medium. Most of the schools have sprawling campuses which are strategically located and thus attract the student community of Kalyani and it’s neighbouring areas.

High quality education being the hallmark of schools in Kalyani, one sterling example of successful school education in Kalyani is the Springdales school’s internationally recognised "Play - way" method of education that is practised. This school has the rare distinction of being the first English medium school in the District of Nadia to be affiliated to the West Bengal Education Board and students make a beeline to get themselves enrolled in this school where innovation is the watchword. The brain behind this innovative school is Mrs. Ilina Sen, an expert in play - way method of education from U.K., U.S.A. with more than 20 years of experience in the field of Primary education in the country and abroad.

Pannalal School and Experimental School are the two major Bengali medium schools that have an impeccable track record in the number of students that have successfully passed out from the respective schools.

College Education:

The need for a good College in Kalyani was a longfelt need for the citizens of Kalyani. Today, however, the dream of a College in Kalyani has been fulfilled in the form of Kalyani Mahavidyalaya.

At present the College is functioning from the premises of B.T. College located in the periphery of the Central Park which has been leased out to the College authorities as a goodwill gesture by Kalyani University. The makeshift premises is already abuzz with activity and efforts are already underway to build a state-of-the-art college campus in Kalyani township.

This is just the start. A lot of funds will however be required to set up the College and make it functional for which help in cash and kind is solicited from non-resident Bengalis living overseas and other like minded individuals, philanthropic and charitable institutions in India and abroad towards the College fund.

A campaign to raise funds for the College has already begun through Music Concerts, Dance and Drama shows etc. This year the world renowned Sarod mastreo, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan had come and performed in Kalyani in aid of the college which was a roaring success.

Donations in cash and kind for the College may be made to:
